My opinion about a good teacher

                                                                                                              

                                

                                              Good teacher is a good guide to children. On the hand a teacher is a facilitator and on the other hand he or she is a good friend for students. According to my view I believe that a good teacher should have number of qualities.

                                   Initially good teacher should have a sound subject knowledge. He or she should be able to explain the things which are relevant to his or her subject in a way that students can understand it clearly. Teacher should have a clear idea about the subject matters. A good teacher should treat all the student equally. There shouldn’t be favoritism. All the ideas of children should accept and if there any clarification teacher should describe it clearly. After that he or she can correct them or add more facts to them.

                                       Moreover a good teacher should be a good listener. He should be able to listen students at any time. Teacher should not be a dictator in his class room. Then he can be friendly with students and support them to overcome from the difficulties. A good teacher must have a sense of humour in the activities in classroom. If not a classroom become a dull place for students. Teacher should conduct the activities in classroom and make all the students participate in them.  Then the teacher could build unity in the class room. A good teacher should always appreciate the students when they do good things. Public appreciation lead the particular student to improve their personality. At same time other students try to be good.

                                        A good teacher can always teach his students good habits. Not only that, good teacher teach about the life and also real meaning of the life. At this point he becomes a guide. Moreover, if a student has a personal problem, a good teacher should be able to help the student to overcome his troubled mental condition. He should help the student to find a proper solutions.

                                        Thus, there are many qualities that a teacher should practice. Some of them are inborn. But some should be practiced. However, if one practices them he or she could definitely become a good teacher and he or she will automatically earn appreciation from the society. 

Dessert Flower

                                                  My favourite movie is “Dessert Flower”. It is a German biographical film directed by Sherry Hormann. It is based on the Somali-born model Wari's autobiography. In 2012 I watched that film. It could catch my heart strongly. The character of waris had become an immortal women in my life. Before I watch that film I have read the book “Dessert Flower”. But film could imagine the real situation of her life.

                                                               Main character of that film was Waris. Waris was born into a nomadic family in Somaliya. She had to face lot of incident in her life. But all these things became a strength to her. At the age of thirteen, she fled to another place in order to escape an arranged marriage to a much older man. It was a harassment for her. At a very small age she happened to face lot of problems. However she has become a model lastly and social activist.

                                                               Through that movie I taught many things. Though problems come to our life we should bare and we should find a permanent solution for them. Not only that I knew that women can change the world at any time. For that the best example is Waris. Though various people enter to her life and struggling she never reluctant to go ahead. Lastly she was appointed as the UN Special Ambassador.

                                                                I have watched various movies. But this movie gives lot of things about the life. It tells that how we deal with the society, what the real meaning of a family etc is. Though we have various bonds we should understand others feelings. Also waris could meet various people. Some are spend time with Waris as real friends. But some are trying to get their chances from waris. It is the thing happening in the world. That movie shows the real qualities of man with sensitive scenes. Not only that the things which was came to the Waris life is very uncomfortable. She lives with various problems. But she never discourage.

                                                            Likewise through that movie I could teach so many important things about the life. Not only the character of Waris, the flowing style in that movie was caught my attention. The incidents which were in that movie are very memorable. Every scene has a speciality. Likewise the method which were supported to flow the movie and also the charcters took my attention for that movie. Because of all these facts I can say that it is my favourite movie.

My opinion about conservation of Galle fort

                         
                                                                          Galle fort is a place which has a high historical value. It has brought a pride to Sri Lanka. Not only that there is an architectural value. It shows the Dutch architectural features. Because of these facts conservation of Galle fort has become important. According to my opinion existing of Galle fort depends on the conservation. But authorities should take actions with a better understanding about conservation.

                                                When we consider about the conservation of that area, mainly Galle Heritage Foundation, Galle Municipal authorities and the Galle police station is doing their jobs about the conservation. But when we pay our attention towards the conservation I feel sometimes the legal frame work has become a harassment for the life style of the people who live in the Galle fort. People can’t live according to themselves. They have to become robots and they happen to live under regulations. They can’t even the change a small part of their houses without getting permission of archeological department. Permission of archeological department has become a very important thing for people who live in the Gale fort.

                                                  Though they get the permission they should have pay huge amount of money to get an advice of an architect who is in the archaeological department of Galle fort. It can’t an affordable. Therefore the people who own those properties from Galle fort are selling them for foreign people. They think that is the only solution for that problem. Not only that sometimes people are not going to renovate their houses. They live in their old houses with low strength features. They take the risk of their lives on behalf of paying lot of money. According to my thinking characters of Galle fort are disappearing day by day. All the houses have become guest houses. It may be a threat for the Galle fort why because then entire Galle fort will functioning as a holiday resort one day. Likewise the prices of the houses in Galle fort are very higher than Colombo 7. It can afford only for foreigners and also high class people who live in Sri Lanka. Actually I don’t think mean of conservation is annihilation of poor people.

                                                     When we discuss about the conservation of Galle fort we should emphasize about the Southland girl’s college, army camp and also about Sudharmalaya Buddhist temple. According to my point of views their functions may effect to the Galle fort and also functions which are happening within Galle fort also effect for those public places. When I talk a friend who was a student of Southland College, she said in her school time their principal madam wanted to build a concrete wall near the back gate of the school. But it has become a struggle after madam talk with authorities. Likewise according to her because of the some activities of foreign people children also confuse. Some foreign couples behave like gay or lesbians. And also some are not consider about children and behave like beasts. Same thing happen for other public places also.

                                                        According to me though we get funds from foreign countries to conserve the Galle fort authorities should pay their attention more about our culture and also tradition. Then we can think about the conserve the attitudes of foreigners about the Galle fort. If we neglect about the Sri Lankan, Galle for will become a paradise of foreigners or it will be a great monument.

Galle fort visit

                               

                                       Under the module Heritage in planning we learnt about the Galle fort & also the present condition of the fort. After studying about the Galle fort we went to the Galle to visit Galle fort. We went from the university around 8’O clock on 15/10/2015.

                     We went to visit Galle fort as groups and we had to study an area for each group. Our area consisted with four major roads. Namely Rampart road, Parawa Street, Chando Street and Light House Street. When we go through that area we studied about the land use and also about the activities. So many buildings have renovated in that area as Dutch era. We could see about the architectural patterns which have in Dutch era. The court yard is the most common feature of those houses which are in the Galle fort. Not only that, most of the houses have converted in to guest houses and also cafes.

                      When we go there it is not the season of travelling of tourists. Therefore at that time there were less number of tourists in that area according to the people who live in that area. Among the people of there most of them are Muslims. Likewise so many people had rented out or sold their properties to foreigners. After doing our studies we walked around the Galle fort. Within the Galle fort my favourite spot is a small guest house. It was located in Church street.

                      Before I enter it I saw the logo of that cafe. That logo also gave a meaningful idea about that place. And also meaning to the name of the cafe. It was consisted with the image of a pigeon which flying with an earhead of paddy. It was a very special feature of that place. According to my point of views that logo can attract the people who are walking along that street. Why because I could understand that logo says thousand word about the prosperity of that café with comparing others.

                                                 Then I entered to the cafe. The staff was very friendly and told many things about that. According to them it was a hundred years old Dutch house. Now it has renovated and owner of it is a Muslim person. But now it has rented out for a Sinhala person who known as G.A.Samantha. There were 4 rooms. All of those were A/C rooms. One room was rs.5000 and customers were offered by 25% discount for each room in season. Not only that there were hammocks and Wi-Fi. The specialty of that guest house is, they only offer their services for foreigners. In front of that café they have mentioned their menu on two black boards. That café offers a good variety of western and sri Lankan foods.

                                                   Actually the Galle fort is a proud for us. It improves the connection between sri lanka and other countries. We should protect this world heritage proudly.

Town planning.. For whom??

                                 

                                                     Planning is a very useful thing for every task. Before doing some work we should have a better plan to go ahead and achieve the target. That’s why we can say through a plan we can manage every things. Likewise we can do anything according to a better plan. In modern world space also planning. In past it has done automatically. But in the modern world space planning goes ahead with methods. Through the town planning people could arrange their space perfectly. When we discuss about town planning the question “Town planning for whom” comes to our mind.

                  Every work should has a fruitful purpose. Likewise there should be a purpose. According to my point of views I can say that “Town planning is for all the human”. Not for only one special group of people it provides its service for all the people who live in earth. There are large number of towns. But they should be livable. Town planning is not considering about the level of society or level of that community. They want to success the space.

                 Planners haven’t boundaries. Specially they haven’t physical or mental boundaries. When they are planning towns they only consider about the comfort of the people who live in that area. Why because all the things which are done by the planners effect to the life of human. Therefore planners pay their attention every and each factors when they are planning. They want to see a high quality life style. Then they can say we have come to our purpose. Therefore planners should have a better understanding about the people and also about their life style. According to these facts I think “all the people take advantages from town planning and town planning is belonging to the people.”

How can we make our cities “Livable Cities?”

                             

                                           Cities are one of the main place which can people have settled down and also gather to do their daily activities. Around the cities there are so many people doing their own business. Though cities have much more infrastructure facilities actually the living conditions in our city are getting worse and worse. Therefore we should pay our attention towards cities. Not only cities we should pay attention how can we make our cities. Urbanization must not just be about building new infrastructure, but also about managing cities sustainably to deliver the energy, water, transport and public requirements etc. Why because the main part of the city is People who are living in the city.

                                         Actually how can we make our cities livable? When we are talking about it we can’t think about one thing. All the things are in the city has connected with that problem. Specially we should understand the current situation of the city. Through that we can identify the things which make cities ugly. One big problem is the amount of rubbish. To reduce the amount of litter, we could make some recycling schemes. Also good things to do might be to add more bins to the city centers etc. As a result we could have cleaner streets and less diseases.Likewise through improving the public transport facilities we can make an attractive environment. Why because through the improving public transportations we can reduce the number of vehicle which are running through the city Centre. Then we can make a green environment and also environment friendly transport service.

                                         Not only that when we are talking abou cities we should talk about water pollution. The best example for that is “Kelani River”. All the factories and residence who have settled down near the Kelani River pollute that river day by day. Likewise all the other cities face problem like this. To solve that problem government should take very clear actions against to reduce this kind of works.

                                         Actually every problem has a solution. The problems which are push cities into hell also can stop. But for that there should be a good community.  Then only all the people can stand against the offenders. All things considered, there are many solutions to all the problems. The sooner we put them into practice, the better our lives will become. Then it is not a dream, live in the best city in the world.

IF WE CAN

                                                 

                                              People are the strongest being in the world. We have very specific qualities. Specially we have a good knowledge. Not only that we can logically think about each and everything in our lives. Therefore people have become the controllers of the earth. Though we have various skills and a huge knowledge sometimes we behave like failures. Why because actually we don’t try to do some essential things and even we don’t care about our responsibilities. We think only about our rights.

                                               Though we behave like controllers of the world actually we are a part of the world. There are so many owners for the earth like us. But they love earth more than us. When you are reading this article sometimes you may think that “who are those?”. They are not strangers or aliens. Actually they are trees and animals. If we can live without doing any damage for the environment. Then there will not be any kind of environment issues.

                                                 Not only with the environment, we should develop our bonds with each other. We live on this world for very short period. But most of the people live like they are immortal. They want to do everything more than others. Therefore hearts of the people are filled with jealousy thoughts. People think competition is the best thing to go ahead and achieve the targets. But after we become old we realize the truth. The thing is it is too late for recorrect the life. we can realize the life we can win the life.

                                                Though we do so many works in our life sometimes we forget to understand our selves. Don’t forget the things which we should do in our life. Then we haven’t time to think that” If we can” and we will say that “YES, WE DID IT”.
